Mortar wears out faster than brick. As joints erode, water gets into the masonry, freezes, and starts pushing bricks loose. Repointing replaces that worn mortar before the damage spreads.

How we work
How we repoint and repair masonry

Assess
We check which joints and bricks are failing and whether the top of the chimney needs rebuilding.

Cut out old mortar
Worn mortar is removed to a consistent depth so the new mortar bonds properly.

Repoint and replace brick
Fresh mortar is packed and tooled into the joints, and damaged brick is replaced.
- 04
Clean up
Mortar and debris are cleaned off the roof and the area around the chimney.

What's the difference between repointing and tuckpointing?
People use the terms loosely. Both mean removing worn mortar from the joints and replacing it with new mortar. Tuckpointing traditionally adds a finishing line for appearance.
When is rebuilding better than repointing?
If many bricks are cracked or loose, especially at the top of the chimney, rebuilding that section is usually more durable than repairing joint by joint.
